Blogging for Fun vs. Blogging for Money: What’s Your Choice

Written by Brandon Schaefer, Founder of eioLIFE

Yes, I understand the title of this post “Blogging for Fun vs. Blogging for Money: What’s Your Choice” is a little abrupt, but I have no other way to get the direct point across. Most people I talk to stumble when I ask them what the purpose of their blog is, even myself in the beginning. My purpose of this article is to assist you in determining your exact goals and aspirations for your blog.

Great, you’ve decided to start a blog for your business, my question to you is, why? Is it to educate consumers, is it to drive more qualified traffic to your site, or is it because someone told you that blogs can make your business money. I suggest before you do any more blog posts, you determine what your exact goal is for your blog, then, tailor the articles you write around your goal.

In life, as well as in blogging, it is all about balance and proper alignment. You can achieve balance and proper alignment with your blog by determining and understanding what exactly your goals are. If you are living the life of the “New Rich”, thank you +Tim Ferriss, you may be blogging for fun, but if you are blogging for survival and blogging to make money, you will need to become an expert in your niche market. You will want to become a highly sought after advisor for your target market.

So, how do you become the highly sought after advisor? By having clearly defined goals on what you are actually trying to achieve and by sharing a consistent message. I found the most success when I stopped trying to do everything well and starting doing one thing very well. I call this having a laser beam to my direct target market, people know what they are going to get when they read one of my articles, it is going to inspire them and provide information of value to them.

In closing, determine whether you are blogging for fun, or if you are blogging for money, then, focus your efforts and tailor your writing around it. I always say, if you talking about what you love, and what you are passionate about, you will naturally make money. My suggestion is, don’t do it for the money, do it for the love, and the money will naturally come.
